The swollen big toe is one of gout attacks symptoms. The excessive uric acid in blood causes the accumulation of crystal in the joints which causes inflammation. The problem starts because the body is failed to eliminate uric acid from the body. The normal function of a human is dissolving uric acid in blood and travel via your both kidneys. Normally it should be thrown away through urine. But if the level of uric acid is too high, then it will construct and deposit crystals in joints of an human body which causes tenderness, inflammation, and puffiness.
This is a type of arthritis that causes sudden attacks of very sharp pain in the joints. It could affect any joint in the body but the first to be involved is usually the big toe or any other part of the foot. The joint that is involved becomes painful and swollen with the surrounding skin being red and shiny. An attack could last between 7 and 10 days if untreated. In addition to affecting joints, it causes a lump or even an ulcer around that area. The condition could also damage the kidneys.
