home remedies for joints/arthritis?

ok, my horse horse has early signs of arthritis…and I know there are plenty of supplements out there, but I would prefer to have some kind of home remedy to give to him. (i’m all about natural things, although I will use some like electrolytes) I know that flaxseed is good for their joints, and I’ve heard that apple cider vinegar is, but my horse is picky with taste, so I know he wouldn’t eat that.

Any other ideas?

Thanks
please note..my horse is a stud…so only has a small paddock he can go into.
There is no way to put him into a bigger paddock as all of the fences are electric tape fences, and he will break them.
He is only in for now for feedings, and overnight since it gets so cold where he is.

For an arthritic horse, turnout is the best thing you can do. Give him turnout as much as possible, 24/7 turnout if you can, only stalling when necessary. The exercise helps keeps him limber and will really help slow the progression of arthritis.

Glucosaine isn’t really a “home remedy” but it is natural and it’s great for the joints.

There’s also Cetyl-M which comes from a type of nut and is excellent for horse’s joints. Cetyl-M contains MSM and glucosamine as well as vitamin C. It’s probably the best supplement out there for joints because it has everything in it.

Corn oil, around 1/2 cup added in the grain, can be great for the joints. It also has the nice side effects of giving them healthy hooves and a shiny coat.

Rheumatoid Arthritis? What treatments have helped you best?

I posted this for a friend who is running out of options in hopes that somebody might know of something he hasn’t tried. This batch of answers offers a very wide range in treatement ideas, and I don’t know what to pick as best answer, and have decided to leave it for a vote. I would like to thank everyone for thier participation and points of view, and have emailed your answers to him, in the hope he might find something he hasn’t tried yet. Also thanks for the good wishes. There are a couple days left on this question, so I will also leave it here in hopes that someone else may come up with something. For those of you who are dealing with this awful condition, I wish you good healing, and hope the treatments you are using will continue to work well for you….

If you want to go with the natural products, ( perfect choice).First you need a natural anti inflammatory, Bromelaine, (pineapple pill).Omega 3 , and Glucosamine and Condroityne, You have to take all of them at once.
My father had this problem, and I gave him those supplements, and he never complain again.

Chronic Pain Sufferers: What Pain Management Techniques do you use?

What is your medical condition that causes chronic pain for you?

What Pain Management techniques do you use for your chronic condition/pains?

Arthritis (wrists, thumbs)
Spinal Stenosis (narrowing of spinal canal)
Lumbar disintegration (disintegrating disks)

I use 800mg Ibuprofen as needed for daily pain.
On occasion I’ll use LorTab (hydrocodone) for emergent pain and to aid sleep on nights when it just won’t let me be. I have legal scripts for these from my physician.

But, mostly, I have developed a high pain tolerance, and prefer not to use drugs unless absolutely needed.

I also have several physical therapy excersizes that help strengthen areas to releive the cause of pain, rather than treating only the symptoms.

If you block the pain altogether, you run the risk of ignoring it and doing more damage. This can lead to even more pain in the long run. Pain is a signal that something is wrong. If you can treat what’s wrong, the symptoms will go away with the condition.

Manage chronic pain associated with arthritis, muscle pain, strain, and rebuild your joint with an Arthritis Cream.

Arthritis treatments or advice?

I have heard that there are foods you should avoid. Any one have any advice?
The joints in my fingers have become inflamed in the past couple of months. I have suffered with my ankles and wrists too. I want to do all can to stop my symptoms getting worse. I’m only 31! This isn’t fair!!!!!

Sorry to hear at so young an age, that you are suffering with arthritis.

My father has identified cheese as being a real problem for him as he can be left virtually unable to move within 6 – 12 hours after eating it and it can take a couple of days to right itself.

In terms of food affecting you, the only way to try and identify the problem foods, if there are any, would be to keep a RECORD of what your eating on a daily basis along with how your arthritis is on a daily basis. If foods are a problem then hopefully by doing this you could make a connection between items eaten and your suffering.

All the best to you.

What are some alternatives to euthanasia apart from palliative care and pain management?

i tried researching some alternatives for euthanasia but all I could find was palliative care and Pain Management.

Help!

THE ALTERNATIVE TO EUTHANASIA

The alternative to legalized euthanasia is not extraordinary, futile treatment to hopelessly dying patients. The alternatives are appropriate medical care – including 1) the withdrawal of treatment upon patient request, or if that treatment serves no therapeutic purpose; and 2) dispensing drugs as necessary to control pain. No doctors, laws, or organizations oppose ceasing care when the time to die has arrived.
