Does Steroidal Eczema Treatment Cause Cancer?
Steroidal Eczema Treatment
Millions of Americans are sick of the relentless itching and bumpy red patches all over their skin that their eczema causes, and they would probably take anything to make it stop. But the Food and Drug Administration warns that if “anything” means that they are thinking treating their eczema with prescription drugs, they might want to think again.
Last week, the FDA ordered two of the most effective steroidal eczema creams, Elidel and Protopic, to carry their most serious “black box warning” because, since these the drugs were introduced in 2000 and 2001, 78 patients using them have gotten cancer.
In addition to the link between the steroidal creams and cancer, they also have many adverse side effects, including stretch marks, weight gain, and high blood pressure.
Plus, steroids curb immune response, lowering your ability to fight off infections, a side effect that can have very serious repercussions, according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine. Statistics have shown that more people die from incorrect overuse of anti-inflammatory drugs than from AIDS.
Eczema can worsen if left untreated.
Left untreated, eczema can worsen and lead to staph infections, but Dr. Maria Hordinsky, dermatology department chair at the University of Minnesota medical school, recommends that you “follow the FDA’s advice in the black box warning and try other treatments first.”
One alternative treatment available from Selmedica Healthcare in Memphis, Tennessee is Epitrex, which the company calls a non-steroidal, all-natural solution to eczema.
Selmedica claims that Epitrex takes a two-pronged approach, with the capsule working internally to boost your immune system and reduce inflammation and the topical solution instantly soothing your itching and discomfort and improving its appearance.

i have very bad eczema on my hands it is so annoying. i feel so self concious i wear long sleeve shirts to cover it up. does anyone know any at home cures? ive tried steriod medicines but nothing seems to keep it under control for over a week..please help?!
Hi,
I have been helping a friend get rid of his psoriasis’ on his skin, it covers about 2 square feet of his arms and hands.
He has been spraying on 2.5 PH water for about a month now, and it is working. He is also drinking 9.5 PH water. His wife has MS, and is also drinking the 9.5 PH alkaline water, and is doing much better.
You can get free alkaline water – place a wanted add on http://craigslist.com
Here is a demo video to watch for the eczema cure as seen in Japan. Sorry but the hospitals in the United States and Europe are not this advanced at this time.
Alergies to food include shellfish, garlic, and others. Stop eating things like cheese, then milk products, then anything brewed (beer, yogurt, breads made with yeast). When it goes away, then you have some idea of what you should stop eating.
Or use the process developed in Japan, and eat what you want to.
Good Luck !

Does anyone here have experience with Protopic ointment for eczema and other skin conditions?
It was prescribed for me after my diabetes reacted horribly to Desonide lotion.
I can actually picture the desonide reacting with your diabetes. If you manage to get some absorbed into your skin it actually increases blood sugar levels because it is a corticosteroid. You might have applied it while you have wet skin or into open skin or you rubbed a cream on top of it to increase absorption.
Protopic Ointment is a prescription ointment used to treat moderate to severe eczema. Protopic is for use after other prescription medicines have not worked or when a doctor recommends that other prescription medicines should not be used. Protopic should be used for short periods, and, if needed, treatment may be repeated with breaks in between. protopic on dyshidrotic eczema.
In clinical studies involving hundreds of adult eczema (atopic dermatitis, or AD) patients, Protopic Ointment provided 5 times greater reduction in itch compared to unmedicated ointment. Pediatric patients treated with Protopic enjoyed similar results. Protopic has proven effective in helping patients control the itch of eczema. And controlling the itch can be the key to finding the eczema relief you’re looking for.
Now protopic (tacrolimus) on the other hand is not a hormone and acts in a cellular level. Protopic blocks helper T1 cells preventing inflammation (ie itch and redness) from occuring. There are rumours that protopic can cause cancer and no research proves this but the theory is there. Corticosteroids (desonide) as well as Immunomodulators (ie protopic) surpress the immune system. If it’s surpressed too long then damaged cells do not become repaired. If damaged cells are not eliminated through the immune system, they can become cancerous. The risk is there but it’s low, thats why you should always take a break from using them from time to time to allow your cells to recover.
Now concerning protopic, it’s not as good as corticosteroids but its safer. It’s also considered as long time treatment and you have to apply it right when it STARTS to itch and not full blown.
