How can I lower my risk of skin cancer or other skin related conditions?

After years of preventing sunburns and taking good care of my skin because I’m well-informed about the damage the sun does to it, I still got a severe sunburn from a terrible mistake of overexposure to the sun damaging rays. Now I’m really worried because my risks of getting skin cancer or other skin diseases is pretty high since I have a grandfather with skin cancer, an aunt with psoriasis, and another aunt with lupus.

The sunburn I got was real bad, at first it was red and occassionally I experienced some chills. After a few days blisters appeared and then all the skin peeled off. The damaged skin was on my thighs, my belly, my chest and a little bit of the forearms.

Please let me know how I can, if its possible, to lower my risk of skin cancer or other skin diseases in addition to the basic one of staying out of the sun and don’t forgetting sunblock.

Thanks a lot!

I was looking for relevant questions to answer and I saw yours. Usually I don’t bother with questions that already have several answers but you have been unlucky so far, with one sensible answer and two bad ones.

You know already about sunblock. About the rest: your skin has enzymes that have already repaired the damaged DNA. True, some mutations may have occurred but that does not mean that cancer will happen. Maybe, as you and your cells age, mutations will accumulate and lack of cell control of cell division will happen in one or two cells, leading to cancer. What to do?

1) Use sunblock to decrease the danger of further damage to DNA
2) Use antioxidants, to trap free radicals before they do damage
3) Avoid chemicals that produce free radicals, such as benzoyl peroxide, very common in anti-acne products
4) See a dermatologist if you see any strange looking moles on your skin.

Apart from that, don’t be scared, because being scared is not very useful and it is just another way of wasting your time.

Good luck and best wishes

Hannah

Whats the best best treatment for scalp eczema?

I have eczema at the bottom of my scalp, its quite ichy and sometimes bleeds if i scratch it too much. Is there a shampoo or something i can use because it’s quite hard to locate the eczema. Any help greatly apricated

Hello there. I recommend that you should try the Champori anti-eczema Spray and Cream: these are herbal remedies and works better than anything else for my eczema: first spray the affected area, and after few seconds apply thinly the cream. Repeat 2-4 times a day. Cream can be left on scalp overnight, too.
Best,
Bernadette

Infant eczema treatment?

What are some safe natural remedies for infant Eczema Treatment? Help pls!

Calendula cream and Chamomile cream are very mild but effective remedies for an infant. And my friend had success with the tips she found from this article:

http://www.getbest.info/baby-eczema-treatment-natural-remedies/

They removed soy milk from the diet and that was enough for their baby’s eczema to clear up. But allergies are individual, so you must find out what is causing eczema for your baby and remove it. It might be a food or external substance irritating the immune system.

Good luck!

Stress is starting to give me skin conditions. What can I do about the dry patches.?

stress is causing my psoriasis to act up in my scalp. For the first time its starting to spread to my face. I have a dry skin patch on my cheek. I keep putting lotion (oil of olay) but nothing happens, it stays dry. I dont want to use any prescription steroid creams. What can I do to get the scaling to go away?

Morning Sugarfree_Eyes! I don’t know whether this answer will help you or not but I used to have dry skin on my face as well and sometimes the dryness turned into flaky skin. I used this cream called Hydrocortisone. It worked wonders. Maybe you don’t want to use any creams but this one’s worth a shot. :>

Does anyone know if dead sea salt really helps skin conditions like eczema?

I have Keratosis pilaris (a form of eczema) and I’ve been trying to find something to treat it. I’ve seen a lot of sites that sell dead sea products, they say it helps by cleaning out the skin follicles. What I’m wondering is if any type of sea salt really helps or if the companies lie to sell their products like most people do? I’m sure someone here has some experience with this type of thing and any help would be greatly appreciated.

not sure if it helps eczema but i have a body lotion that contains dead sea salt that does wonders for the skin.i am not one to fall for the middle of the mall kiosks where the employee throws their product at you but this one is truly amazing…the name of the line is called SEACRET… www.seacretspa.com they also have mud masks and sea salts

i have tried soooooo many things and even when i was younger i had to take steriods to help me sleep with out scratching in my sleep! sometimes i feel like ive tried everything dont know what else to do i use products that help me maintain it but since i moved south i started getting spotches or discolored patches its just really on my arms but i have dry skin and my arms get sore sometimes i even grew out of it for a while untill i moved to a state that doesnt have all 4 seasons i would just like ideas what could i do or what have you heard?

My friend uses Arbonne Intelligence shower wash and body cream and swears it helped her a lot and due to it being pure and natural etc. Another friend uses their baby line
worth trying as they are botanical and self adjusts to most problematic skin – worth mentioning.

What is the best way to cure eczema?

I know there is different types of Eczema. I had it on near my ear, eye, mouth, hand, body and leg.

Like Tommy Boy says, there is no cure, but my uncle has eczema and uses fluocinonide cream to relieve the itching. He says it works very well, but you’ll need a prescription from your doctor. If your interested, more info on this topic can be found at these links.

I have at least 4 different Skin conditions?

I have Ancanthosis Nigricans, Psoriasis, Sebohora Dermatitis on my face, and some type of Dematitis on my chest that show up as little brown spots on my chest. Does any person think I have some type of skin cancer. I bathe every day and scrub my skin untill its raw but it does nothing for it, my skin is very dry

Quit abusing your skin by over washing – those conditions are aggravated by it.

Use a prescription topical cream for those – you are going to need 1, perhaps 2 of them it looks like, but really – please- quit abusing your skin – unless you are using your face to clean the floor, its not dirt that is your problem.

No – its not skin cancer.
