Scabies Symptoms to be Aware of

Scabies is a highly contagious condition in the skin of humans that is caused by a tiny mite, the Scabies Mite, that burrows into the skin to lay eggs. The mite is practically invisible to the human eye, and it is a very common occurrence to be infected with scabies. A female mite burrows to lay, and only into the very top layer of the skin. She eats the skin as she goes, and stays secure in the burrow for her lifetime. Once in the burrow the mite will begin laying almost straight away, and will do so more than once every day and over a period of up to two months.

The scabies eggs usually hatch in just a few days. The eggs will surface from the burrow to live on one of the victims hair follicles. In only four days the scabies mite can reach adulthood and is out to look for a mate. The female then starts the process all over again when she burrows into the skin to lay her eggs.

Scabies sufferers usually start to see tiny bites or pimples on the skin in the beginning. Mites thrive in moist and warm areas of skin, which is most likely to occur on the chest or in the armpits. Genital areas and fingers are also common. The places were jewelry sits on your body will also cause warmth. Folds of the skin are likely spots for scabies mites to be found.

Scabies sufferers first notice intense itching sensations at night in the beginning. The appearance of a red raised rash is also a common symptom of scabies. These red rashes are also highly itchy. When dealing with scabies in children it is common for scabies mites to be found on the palms, soles of the feet, or on the scalp. For babies with scabies, they can be found near the head of neck most often.

When the scabies infection starts to grow worse the victim may experience some hardening of the skin and or crusty scaly areas. If the sufferer has sensitive skin or has a severe scabies infestation, nodular scabies can become present. Nodular scabies is usually caused when the scabies debris left behind is trapped under the skin and cause a severe allergic reaction due to the foreign matter.
