Is there anygood home remedies for hives?

I’ve been breaking out in itchy red bumps on face, hands and arms, and can’t figure out why. I haven’t eaten anything unusual, I don’t think I have any allergies. Any ideas? thanx!

For hives, rinse the skin with cool water, and massage Tea Tree Essential Oil into affected area three times daily.

A ten-minute soak in a lukewarm Oatmeal Bath can help relieve itching. Rubbing an ice cube for a few minutes will constrict the blood vessel, prevent further blood leakage, and shrink the hive. Stay cool and wear loose clothing, including shoes.

Do not eat tomatoes, shellfish, strawberries, or citrus fruits while you have hives.

Parsley inhibits histamine and can be blended into carrot juice to taste better. Nettle taken in capsules contains enough histamine to help and not enough histamine to harm, while containing other substances that help heal hives. Take this three times a day. Jewelweed (Jewelweed Anti-Itch Spray) can stop itching instantly when applied topically.

Wash the skin several times a day with vinegar water: 1/4 quart natural apple cider vinegar to two quarts water.

Vitamin C and Vitamin B-12 will help ease hives from allergic symptoms and prevent recurrences. Beta Carotene is particularly effective for hives caused by the sun.

Take evening primrose oil (two 500 mg capsules three times daily).

An antihistamine (cold or allergy medicine, but read the label to be sure this is listed) will help relieve hives.

A hive that doesn’t go away after 24 hours or leaves a bruise behind is not a normal hive. For that, a doctor should check for thyroid disease.

Hives around the eyes or in the mouth, or difficulty breathing, are signals to get to an emergency room. (Hives in the throat can cause the throat to swell and close, bringing on suffocation.)

i broke out in a bad case of hives any home remedies to help with the itching?

i broke out all over my body and ive been to the doctor’s i was subscribed an antihistamine and a steroid pill. they said it was an allergic reaction but to what i don’t know. but it itches bad and feels like a bad sun burn any suggestions?

Hi,

From my own experiences – I used to be allergic to my own sweat that I was burning off during exercise – during a time in my life when I used to have considerable toxins stored within my body fat. I eventually learned that itching or rashes are symptoms of maladies that could become much worse if never healed with good choices.

Although I have seen that most root problems for ’skin’ issues for myself and others has usually always been from long and or short term allergic reactions to ’something’ COMBINED WITH a weakened lymph liver kidney skin and immune systems – IF the following symptoms would ever occur – I think the worst rash one might possibly have rapidly acquired is from deadly bacterial meningitis, BUT bacterial meningitis would be VERY RARE.

The two quotes below are from: <> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bacterial_Meningitis <>

<>
“IF a rash is present, it may indicate a particular cause of meningitis; for instance, meningitis caused by meningococcal bacteria may be accompanied by a characteristic rash.”
<>

<>
“The MOST common symptoms of meningitis are headache and neck stiffness associated with fever, confusion or altered consciousness, vomiting, and an inability to tolerate light (photophobia) or loud noises (phonophobia). SOMETIMES, especially in small children, only nonspecific symptoms may be present, such as irritability and drowsiness.”

What is the best known treatment available for Chronic Cholinergic Hives?

I mean dead-set, symptoms gone, no itchiness, no hives at all, can-do-whatever-I-want-without-fear-of-an-outbreak, relief from this nightmare?!?! I want to be a fire fighter, but that might not be possible with this condition haunting me!!!

The best treatment for hives and associated swelling is to identify and remove the trigger, but this is not an easy task. Antihistamines are usually prescribed by your doctor or dermatologist to provide relief from symptoms. Antihistamines work best if taken on a regular schedule to prevent hives from forming in the first place.

Chronic hives may be treated with antihistamines or a combination of medications. When antihistamines don’t provide relief, oral corticosteroids may be prescribed.

For severe hive or angioedema outbreaks, an injection of epinephrine (adrenaline) or a cortisone medication may be needed.

How Can Hives Be Managed?

While you’re waiting for the hives and swelling to disappear, here are some tips:

Avoid hot water; use lukewarm water instead.
Use gentle, mild soap.
Apply cool compresses or wet cloths to the affected areas.
Try to work and sleep in a cool room.
Wear loose-fitting lightweight clothes.

When Should I Call the Doctor?

If hives or angioedema occur with any of the following symptoms, contact your doctor right away:

Dizziness
Wheezing
Difficulty breathing
Tightness in the chest
Swelling of the tongue, lips, or face

Home remedy for treating hives?

Does anyone know of any home remedy to treat chronic hives?

Hello fellow sufferer. I’ve got a lifetime of experience with hives, as well as several years of helping others with chronic urticaria and related conditions. You’re far from alone in this, there are thousands of us worldwide.

Unfortunately, there is no cure for chronic hives, but there’s plenty of things you can try to help relieve the misery:
- Aveeno lotions and bath
- Sarna Lotion
- any lotion containing menthol
- Benadryl cream
- staying cool – very important, since heat is a known mast cell degranulator (when mast cells degranulate, they release histamine, which causes the hives and itching)
- My favorite is a lotion made from cromolyn – recipe can be found at www.chronichives.com; also check out the support group for chronic hivers through that website, it’s the largest one on the web (it’s also the largest CU Yahoo group). There are more suggestions for coping at the website, and the group can give you many more ideas, too.

One thing which does help some people is a low-histamine diet, which is printed at the website. While allergies are very seldom the culprit behind CU, foods loaded in histamine don’t help us much, so limiting them in your diet may help. There have been a few published studies about histamine in the diet and its effect on CU; typically some of the studies show it does help, and others say it doesn’t. Everyone is different, but it can’t hurt to try.

Approx. 25% of CUers are or will become sensitive to salicylates (the active ingredient in aspirin), so for some of those people, a diet low in salicylates can help. Again, the chronichives.com website has that information.

Have you ever been tested to find out if your hives are autoimmune? The test, called an autologous serum skin test, uses a sample of your own blood, which is then spun down in a centrifuge to separate the serum, and then the serum is injected back into you, along with 2 controls (saline and histamine). If you react to your own serum, the test is considered positive. Researchers are finding more and more chronic hivers are autoimmune, and it has also been found that remission can be induced for many hivers with the use of Cyclosporine. I was put on it for an unrelated condition, and it put both that condition and my hives into remission. Side effects were minimal, arms got a little hairy, but nothing too extreme… The usual treatment protocol with Cyclosporine for CU is relatively short and at lower doses than used to treat most other diseases, such as kidney disease or to prevent transplant rejection.

And if you must scratch, don’t use your nails! You’ll only tear up your skin and make the itch even worse. Some folks find using the edge of a credit card works well, doesn’t tear the skin, and provides a little temporary relief. But if you can avoid scratching altogether, that’s the best thing…..

What are the causes of Chronic Autoimune Hives and what are the cures?

Chronic hives are almost always idiosyncratic, which means unfortunately you will probably never find out just what is causing them. The best advice I can give you (and I have gotten them on occasion in the last few years) is to avoid stress whenever possible. If you notice a few hives do not dwell on them, one of the causes of hive proliferation is actually the anxiety brought on by thinking about hives. (it sounds silly I know, but it is true). Another thing to look out for is caffeine and heat, both can exaserbate the problem.

As a last resort anti-histamines, especially diphenhydramine, can be a god-send. Systemic delivery (oral dosages) work wonders but can cause a good amount of sedation. There also exists OTC gels and creams with the same active ingredient that also work, but if you get hives chronically you may end up using these up very quickly.

Chronic urticaria – Chronic Hives information

Chronic Urticaria is a type of hives that is also called nettle rash. It unfortunately lasts for more than six weeks. Shorter bouts of hives are considered acute urticaria, and are treated differently.

Urticaria can be a manifestation of many conditions and illnesses, rather than one illness. Current research has shown that up to half of all CU is autoimmune, which means your body is making antibodies against itself, resulting in activation of basophils and mast cells. When these cells are activated, they release many different chemicals, including histamine, which results in hives, and in some people other allergy-like symptoms as well.
Source: http://www.chronichives.com/

CIU stands for chronic idiopathic urticaria. The term idiopathic simply means ‘of unknown cause’. The diagnosis is often made by ruling out known causes, but some causes, like mastocytosis, cannot absolutely be ruled out. You will need to work with your doctor to rule out the things which can be ruled out, to find patterns by keeping a diary, and to find the medicine ‘cocktail’ which works most effectively for you.

Currently about 30-50% of Chronic Hives Sufferers are autoimmune.

Chances of your Chronic Hives being autoimmune:

If you experience any of these, they be signs that your chronic urticaria is autoimmune:

  1. You have a personal history of other autoimmune disease
  2. Your family has a history of autoimmune disease (not necessarily chronic urticaria)
  3. Your mother had endometriosis, and/or if you are a woman, you have had endometriosis
  4. You are female
  5. You have autoimmune thyroid disease
  6. Your symptoms worsen during your monthly cycle (women only)
  7. Your symptoms lessen or go into remission during pregnancy
  8. You have experienced remissions in the past
  9. Symptoms began following an ‘event’ that triggered the immune system, such as accident, illness, surgery, infection, allergic reaction
  10. Prior to developing CU you would describe yourself as someone who was rarely ill; and even now you seldom catch colds and flu, even if everyone around you is coughing and sniffling
