I have had chronic hives daily since 6/1/2006. My suggestion to you is to visit this site and search the archives for anything you may have questions on. There is also a “recipe” for lotion that many have found hugely helpful. It’s called cromolyncream.
Good luck, very sorry for your discomfort.

Treatment for hives on horses?
my horse has hives and ive heard that apple cider vinegar will get rid of them is this true?
Every time a horse breaks out in hives your vet should always be called, and no treatment should be instituted until the vet prescribes it. There are multiple possible causes for hives to develop, and some are very serious while others are more minor. But treatment varies depending on the cause, and your vet should really be the one to determine what treatment is best in your horse’s case. It is safe to rinse your horse with water if you think the cause is something topical that you applied or that he rolled in. But beyond rinsing him off, I’d wait for the vet to advise you.
Add….antihistamines like Benadryl are contraindicated in some condtions causing hives,so you shouldn’t give them unless your vet prescribes it.
Also, giving any medication before your vet sees the horse can alter symptoms and confuse diagnosis.
Our son has had hives for 3 years. All tests show no allergy. Do you have ideas or cures?
The hives are raised, red and spread all over the body. They appear randomly and they have gotten worse over the past 6 months. He is breaking out every day!! He is getting scars from all the itching and had a hive from his knee to his hip yesterday. Now, when he gets them on his fingers they swell, hurt and can’t bend. On the soles of his feet when they appear it hurts to walk. I am afraid they will travel to his throat. Nobody is concerned and I am going crazy. I will travel anywhere and try anything. If you have anything to help with the symptoms or cure please let me know. Thank you!

Any effective home remedies for hives?
I have chronic hives due to allergies, and I’m undergoing allergy shots. I take antihistamines daily (Claritin), and at the advice of my pharmacist, use Ivarest for a topical lotion. However, I’d like a homeopathic treatment for hives. I’ve tried oatmeal baths, cold wet washcloths, and numerous other ointments with no real relief. Any other EFFECTIVE ideas?
Try applying a clay mask on a section of skin, then let it stay there for at least 4 hours. Do not use Aveda clay mask, they put so much oil in it that it has no way of drawing oil out of your skin. Try to get a mask that has as little extra stuff as possible.
I won’t guarantee this will work, but you can try it for cheap, and there is no way it will hurt you. I get patches of eczema (which is an allergic reaction)and the patch will come back over and over again until I put a mask on the spot.

Duration and treatment of hives?
Two nights ago, the tops of my feet broke out with hives. By yesterday morning, they were all over my body. I have not eaten anything out of the ordinary, nor have I changed any soaps or detergents. I am one huge, miserable itch from head to toe. Besides taking Benadryl and Zyrtec, is there anything I can do to treat it? Also, how long does a typical case of hives last?
The person who just answered you is possibly trying to hurt you and I’m outraged that this kind of thing can go on here at Yahoo. Hives are not a problem at all IF IF IF over the counter treatments get rid of them right away, as in a day at the longest and that’s if there are no NEW hives starting or appearing. However, hives are very dangerous when they start spreading all over the place. The hives contain water from your body caused by a release of histamines (now “out of control”). Hives can spread quickly into the throat and cause suffocation (in a worst case scenario though NOT uncommon) but more dangerous still is the event of anaphalactic shock (shock which results quite often in death). Anaphalactic shock is caused by sudden and large amounts of water loss the body experiences when it has hives. If over the counter remedies did not work, then you need to see a doctor. Do not rub or scratch the hives as this irritates the surrounding skin and is what causes the spreading. You will probably need a “steroid” shot which will zap the hives in a New York minute and will get you feeling better right away.
Hives really are a very very dangerous condition ESPECIALLY when not responding to medication over the counter. It means your body has lost control of histamine production and water loss and anaphalactic shock are impending. (Call a pharmacist to verify this information).
Please see a doctor and if anybody tells you when your hives are spreading that it’s no big deal, do not listen to them. I had hives spread to my throat (though I did not experience anaphalactic shock) about a year ago and was warned by my doctor to NEVER ignore hives like I did again.
Good luck.

cures for urticaria hives?
I have urticaria hives around my waist and I am 100% positive its what it is and I just need to know what I can do to cure it? Thanks! And going to the doctor isn’t the answer because I do not have insurance.
Just about anything can make you break out in hives: Foods such as peanuts or strawberries, drugs such as penicillin or aspirin, vitamin supplements, heat, cold, sunlight, exercise, fever, stress, and even scratching or rubbing the skin are among some of the possibilities.
Some substances actually cause an allergic reaction that results in hives, while others have absolutely nothing at all to do with allergies. Strawberries, for example, contain a chemical that can cause cells in your body to release histamine, a chemical also produced in allergies, which allows blood plasma to leak into the skin and form the hives. In this article, we’ll scratch the surface and talk about methods to ease and prevent hives.
Sometimes only a tiny amount of the culprit is needed to set off a reaction. For example, you may have a sensitivity to seafood but break out after eating a steak — simply because the steak was cooked in a pan that had earlier been used to fry fish.
Don’t confuse hives with other skin eruptions. Hives (or urticaria, as the doctors call them) occur when blood plasma leaks into the skin, causing “wheals,” or swollen areas. They can be as small as a pencil eraser or as large as a dinner plate, and they usually last only a few hours. But new wheals may form continuously. And as they form, they often itch.
An attack of hives generally lasts a short time, often just a few days. Some people, however, may be plagued with recurrent outbreaks. They may want to do some detective work to find the cause. And some people have chronic hives — hives that can persist for years.
SUM REMEDIES FOR HIVES:
If the substance or allergy responsible for your urticaria can not be found, the symptoms of urticaria will need to be treated. Antihistamines are the primary medications used to control hives and stop the itching:
• Antihistamines such as Atarax, Benedryl, Seldane, and Tagamet
• Corticosteroids – used in more severe cases
• Injections of epinephrine – used in cases that involve life-threatening episodes
• Avoidance of known allergens

tips for controlling hives
There are some general measures you can take to ease the symptoms associated with urticaria:
• Avoid heat; keep the temperature of the skin cool
• Stay away from alcohol, as it causes flushing of the skin
• Try not to scratch affected areas
• Wear loose clothes that will not put pressure on the skin

are there any home remedies when breaking out in hives due to grass?
i am allergic to grass, but i haven’t broke out in hives since the fourth grade, until yesterday. it’s the first time i lay in the grass at the same park. i am really itchy and these spots came out on my arms. i was wearing jeans so i guess that’s why my legs aren’t itchy. it’s burning really, really bad and i only have zyrtec. do you have any home remedies? like ice or something? thanks for your help
My son is allergic to dogs and when one licks him I make a soupy like paste of baking soda and water and kinda wash the spot with it. The swelling goes down a bit and he is able to relax after that so then we put on an ice pack for a while.
Chronic Urticaria/Hives treatment?
I have chronic urticaria thats stress and heat induced. I get red blotchyness all over my face nack and chest and it takes forever to go away and It’s horribly embarressing. Anyone know what the best treatments are? benadryl doesn’t work for me. Anyone ever tried Hivecten?
I had chronic urticaria for over 5 years. Triggered by pressure, heat, cold, vibration. They could be controlled by an asthma medicine and claritin for the most part and I had a prednisone prescription for if I had a severe breakout. An allergist is the best doctor to work with on hives.
I found out I had celiac disease and when I went on a gluten-free diet, the hives stopped within a month and I have been hive and medicine free for over 5 years now.
So get tested for celiac disease, dermititis herpetiformis and gluten intolerance. Usually starts with a blood test and they go from there. Keep eating gluten products until after you get tested. Then if the tests are negative and you still have hives, give a gluten free diet a month or two shot.
