Does anyone know of any home remedies of how to treat hives… ?

I am having an allergic reaction to something… and am getting hives.. what r some home remedies to treat these hives… they r so bad… even the prednisone is not working.. that the doctor put me on…

Try Aveeno oatmeal baths. They work for chicken pox and I bet they’d help with the hives. But if they are still bad, you should go back to your doctor.

Does anyone have any home remedies for treating hives?

I break out into hives whenever the weather gets cold and the temperatures start to drop. At first, I would get welts on my elbows, backof my hands, and my feet. But last night, I found that it’s spreading to my knees and just today I saw they got to my legs too. It’s a very itchy feeling I get at first and then I start scratching. Then the welts appear and you can see after they go down where the welts were. Sometimes welts don’t appear at all. It’s just red spots that look like mosquito bites when they aren’t.

Make bicarbonate of soda and warm water into a paste and spread it on the affected areas. Very messy but stops the itching and, unlike steroid cream which may be given to you by a doctor, it doesn’t thin the skin. You could also ask your G.P. to refer you to an allergy specialists for allergy tests, but they often come back inconclusive.

are there any home remedies when breaking out in hives due to grass?

i am allergic to grass, but i haven’t broke out in hives since the fourth grade, until yesterday. it’s the first time i lay in the grass at the same park. i am really itchy and these spots came out on my arms. i was wearing jeans so i guess that’s why my legs aren’t itchy. it’s burning really, really bad and i only have zyrtec. do you have any home remedies? like ice or something? thanks for your help

My son is allergic to dogs and when one licks him I make a soupy like paste of baking soda and water and kinda wash the spot with it. The swelling goes down a bit and he is able to relax after that so then we put on an ice pack for a while.

Wholistic & medical treatment for HIVES…..PLS HELP?

Wholistic & medical treatment for HIVES…..PLS HELP?
I’m experiencing hives for 3months now, which I didn’t experience before, the doctors prescribe are Mylan, Atarax & Allegra, mostly causes drowzziness. I’m breast feeding my son, and I’m kinna wonder if the drugs I’m taking is safe for a breastfeeding. So I would like to try the wholistic approach to treat hives

Oatmeal! I suffer from chronic uticarial vasculitis with lupus and get huge, swelling, connected hives that turn into bruises. I’ve had it for 7 years but only in the last two years have they found the drug coctail that works for me. However, there is help by taking oatmeal baths which really relieves the itching. Aveeno makes a collodial oatmeal bath, but the wal-mart Equate brand works just as well and is cheaper. I usally take a bath with at least 2 packets and a cup of epsom salts for the swelling and joint pain I get with the hives. You can also get oatmeal moisturizer that helps as well. Avon, Equate and Aveeno all make one and I carry the purse sized tube by Avon with me at all times so that I can apply it on the go. I’ve been on almost every combination of anti-histamines you can name and they all have two things in common: fatigue and drowsiness. I would definitely ask your pharmacists whether they can be absorbed in breast milk. Also, you might want to check out the chronic uticarial site in yahoo groups. They are a wonderful forum from those of us who go through life hiving. They also have great information, the latest studies, and a recipe for a cromlyn cream you can make yourself to treat the hives, even some diets that some say work. E-mail me anytime for support, believe me, I understand what it is like!

Home Remedies for Allergies

http://www.naturalhomeremediessite.com/
An allergy is a hypersensitive reaction to any of a number of substances. Allergies occur when the body’s immune system malfunctions, going into overdrive to help protect the body from a substance it sees as foreign. Allergies are very common in the United States. In fact, more than one-third of all Americans suffer from an allergy of one type or another. Common symptoms include nasal congestion, coughing, watery eyes, sneezing, fatigue, and headaches. Some allergies may cause hives or an itchy rash. Severe allergies can cause the blood pressure to drop to dangerously low levels, leading to anaphylactic shock and death.

Home remedy for treating hives?

Does anyone know of any home remedy to treat chronic hives?

Hello fellow sufferer. I’ve got a lifetime of experience with hives, as well as several years of helping others with chronic urticaria and related conditions. You’re far from alone in this, there are thousands of us worldwide.

Unfortunately, there is no cure for chronic hives, but there’s plenty of things you can try to help relieve the misery:
- Aveeno lotions and bath
- Sarna Lotion
- any lotion containing menthol
- Benadryl cream
- staying cool – very important, since heat is a known mast cell degranulator (when mast cells degranulate, they release histamine, which causes the hives and itching)
- My favorite is a lotion made from cromolyn – recipe can be found at www.chronichives.com; also check out the support group for chronic hivers through that website, it’s the largest one on the web (it’s also the largest CU Yahoo group). There are more suggestions for coping at the website, and the group can give you many more ideas, too.

One thing which does help some people is a low-histamine diet, which is printed at the website. While allergies are very seldom the culprit behind CU, foods loaded in histamine don’t help us much, so limiting them in your diet may help. There have been a few published studies about histamine in the diet and its effect on CU; typically some of the studies show it does help, and others say it doesn’t. Everyone is different, but it can’t hurt to try.

Approx. 25% of CUers are or will become sensitive to salicylates (the active ingredient in aspirin), so for some of those people, a diet low in salicylates can help. Again, the chronichives.com website has that information.

Have you ever been tested to find out if your hives are autoimmune? The test, called an autologous serum skin test, uses a sample of your own blood, which is then spun down in a centrifuge to separate the serum, and then the serum is injected back into you, along with 2 controls (saline and histamine). If you react to your own serum, the test is considered positive. Researchers are finding more and more chronic hivers are autoimmune, and it has also been found that remission can be induced for many hivers with the use of Cyclosporine. I was put on it for an unrelated condition, and it put both that condition and my hives into remission. Side effects were minimal, arms got a little hairy, but nothing too extreme… The usual treatment protocol with Cyclosporine for CU is relatively short and at lower doses than used to treat most other diseases, such as kidney disease or to prevent transplant rejection.

And if you must scratch, don’t use your nails! You’ll only tear up your skin and make the itch even worse. Some folks find using the edge of a credit card works well, doesn’t tear the skin, and provides a little temporary relief. But if you can avoid scratching altogether, that’s the best thing…..
