What are some home remedies for poison ivy/oak?
Buy the liquid Benadryl and pour on the spots. Let sit a few minutes and dry. Then buy clear nail polish and dab on the spots. This dries it up and seals it in so it doesn’t spread. This method also works for chiggars and such. I also heard someone say once that they used hair spray on their son’s poision ivy. I’m not sure how that works, but good luck. Oh, also repeat those steps once a day, especially after showering.

Tomato juice or paste and/or baking soda is supposed to work well for that, the sooner after your contact with either of these plants, the better.

Baking soda add a bit of water and make a paste out of it and apply it will harden. It helps with the itching and it drawls out the poison. it is also good for bee stings.

Oatmeal, make a paste out of it and smear it on the affected areas, or you can put it in your bath.

ice cubes rubbed on the spot…as well as toothpaste..have to make sure it is the paste though..the gel doesn’t work (probably because the paste has baking soda)…we use this at the preschool i work at…
after bite stick also works..as well as vicks vapor rub…I usually use vicks at home….it has the cooling agent..as well as makes it not itchy….

As soon as the first symptoms occur you need to wash the area with COLD water and soap.
Why cold?
Warm water will allow the pore of your skin to open and as you wash off the oils from the poison ivy you will spread it.
Cold water closes the pores and helps prevent spreading.
Pat dry the area and then apply, "Caladryl" Which is a ready made mix of calamine lotion and benadryl.
