We had a house guest last weekend (shared a bed). Called us later to tell us he just found out he had contracted scabies and apparently had them while at our house. Nobody in our household has symtpoms of course- Went to doctor and got scrip for NIX lotion. What other options are there? What could I do to be proactive and prevention minded? I’d rather not get them at all…..

WASH everything that your guest could have possibly touched. Wash in HOT water twice if it would make you feel better.
I used to work as a teacher and contracted scabies from a child that was neglected and had very poor hygiene and scabies isn’t much fun.
I’m not sure if there is anything that a doctor could do as a preventive measure if you don’t show signs of it yet and you may not at all.
If you do start to show signs of it, do not scratch it and get to the doctor ASAP.

All towels, clothing, and bedding within the household, from everyone, should be washed immediately in hot water and dried with high heat. Clothes may also be placed and sealed in a plastic bag for at least 72 hours. Mites usually cannot survive on their own for more than 3 days.
