My son has had a “diaper rash” for 5 months and seen a doctor 3 times for it.. Just within the past week the rash has started up his back and has been very noticeably bugging him.. I started thinking he was allergic to something so I took him to the doctor today they said its scabies.. But if he has had scabies for 5 months how have myself and my hubby not caught it yet?! And why didn’t they notice that it was scabies the past 3 times I have taken him to the doctor? And why hadn’t it spread sooner? As I said it just started up his back within the past week.. Thoughts?
No they didn’t do a skin scraping and I will be mad if it isn’t scabies (not mad but you know!) Because I had to spend 30 dollars on the meds 25 taking everything we own to the laundry mat and all day cleaning our entire house and now I’m popped and still not done!! I wish they would have done a skin scraping to be sure because if it isn’t scabies then we will still have this 5 month ongoing problem!

I have my doubts too. Scabies is VERY contagious and it is suspect that you an your husband are not also infected.

I would certainly get a second opinion (possibly a dermatologist,) and look closer at allergies even eczema (atopic dermatitis.) Especially if it continues to spread to other areas of his body, itch, etc. This really isn’t that uncommon in infants.
